Cast Iron Toys
The year was 1825 in the Americas, and the first Cast Iron Toys were put on the market for youngsters to play with. The cast were limited and consisted mainly of small irons on trivets, some miniature gardening tools and only a very limited amount of items on wheels.
The 1870's saw a few more items such as cap guns, banks and even some doll furniture. By 1880 the demand was growing for these durable toys and we started to see bigger toys with moving parts and much more detail was visible in each toy.

Toys on Wheels were crudely made, but a toy a young child could run across a wooden floor or other hard surface and be delighted as the wheels turned to make the toy follow along with them.
The period between 1915-1930 centered in on horse drawn iron toys. When you find a cast iron toy that you recognize as old, it has most likely come from this period in time, and hold good value.
